Welcome to the Meant to Shine Foundation

Our foundation offers aid to the children of Curacao through two projects. Through Promise, where children are (temporarily) placed in a foster family because they can no longer stay at home. And through Embrace, an after school program where children are taken in and assistance is provided to both child and family.

Beautiful Curacao

Curacao is a beautiful island. Well-known for its beautiful beaches and wonderful climate. An island full of great architecture and a mixture of many cultures. Challenging and sunny!! Many tourists visit the island every year. But just behind the beautiful scenery hides an often dark and gloomy reality.

Poverty and addiction

Addiction to alcohol or drugs, loneliness and unemployment, single mothers with large families living in small quarters. Not often seen by tourists, but prevalent in Curacao's society. Large parts of the population live in tremendous poverty. These circumstance have a deep impact into a human life. But more than anything else, its effect is greatest on the children involved.

Street Life

Many children can't go to school, due to lack of money. They raise themselves on the streets. Other times the situation at home gets so bad, because of an addictive parent or a complete absence of a caregiver,that the children can no longer stay there. Mothers often can't take care of their children because they have to work; there is not enough money for proper daycare. These children often end up on the street as well.
We can conclude that many children do not receive the care they deserve, the care they need: structure and safety, love and attention. Children get traumatized and suffer from social and psychological problems.

We are all meant to shine, and with our Christian beliefs as a starting point, we want to help them and create, in partnership, opportunities  for these children and their families to reach their potential, hoping for a bright future!
